Educational YouTube channels Real Engineering and Real Science produce topical and in-depth videos on science, engineering, and technology and enjoy a broad audience of young scientists, engineers, and enthusiasts, with collectively over three million subscribers.

The team behind Real Engineering and Real Science is looking for specialist writers who can produce accurate, well-researched scripts of 10–20 minutes on a variety of science- and engineering-related topics. Areas of coverage for Real Engineering currently include renewables, aviation, materials science, mechanics, and more; Areas of coverage for Real Science currently include health and medicine, marine biology, genetics, and more. We are looking to continue this coverage and to expand into other areas.

Writers with a depth of knowledge in a particular science and/or engineering topic are ideal, but more importantly, we’re looking for self-starting writers with a clear passion for writing about STEM-related topics and an ability to independently research and learn about what interests you most. We’re looking for writers whose passion for science and/or engineering is evident on the page, who can write in a way that is knowledgeable and accessible, and who don’t shy away from the nitty-gritty details of the topics they cover.

This paid, freelance, contract position allows you to work with a growing team of educational YouTube content creators, including scriptwriters, animators, video editors, and an audio engineer in order to turn your script and creative vision into a polished, informative, and interesting video for our over three million subscribers. Your work will be credited and pay is competitive.

The position begins with a paid trial script writing process. Estimated pay is $500+ for scripts of 5 minutes and longer, negotiable based on experience or qualifications. Rate is also flexible if hourly position is preferred by candidate.

How to apply:

Email modulus@junto-media.com with a subject line of “STEM scriptwriter.” In the body of the email, please include a description of your background, areas of STEM writing interests, and three writing samples (can be in the form of articles, video scripts, podcast scripts, etc.).

Our team will review samples and will be in contact with those moving forward in the process. We will try to respond to each inquiry, but may not guarantee a response for those not moving forward.
